What is the symbol of East Africa for you? For me it is the snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro, and in front herds of elephants, antelopes and other wildlife roaming between fever trees. You think this is a picture from the past? No, it is not, it geräuschlos exists: in the Amboseli National Park, situated in the South of Kenya close to the Tanzanian border. The view onto Africa's highest mountain is rarely clear, but we are lucky. On our first morning we can marvel at the massif and later on at the abundant wildlife in a varied and fascinating landscape. We were especially delighted to see many herds of elephants, since they are seriously endangered due to the recent dramatic increase in poaching. Gerenuk or giraffe-necked antelope: they do not appear to drink water,
since they get enough liquid from the plants they eat.
Giraffengazelle: sie trinkt noch nicht einmal, wenn sich selbst beliebig Wasserloch in die Nähe
befindet. Ihren Flüssigkeitsbedarf deckt sie ausschließlich durch Nahrung.

An example for mourning amoungst animals: The little bird was run over by a car
already a few hours before on one of the main roads in the Amboseli NP.
Its two companions don't want to leave, they always take off when
a vehicle is coming, but then return back to their friend.

von einem Kraftwagen auf einem die Hauptwege hinein Amboseli NP überfahren.
Seine beiden Weggefährten begehren ihn nicht verlassen. Sobald sich selbst beliebig Fahrzeug nähert,
fliegen sie hoch, kommen aber gleich wieder zurück zu ihrem Freund.

Amboseli - das Sinnbild Ostafrikas

Was ist für euch das Sinnbild Ostafrikas? Für mir ist es die schneebedeckte Kilimanjaro, vor dem Herden von Elefanten, Antilopen sowie anderen Wildtieren zwischen Fieberakazien umherziehen. Ihr glaubt, das gibt es nicht mehr? Doch, es existiert wahrlich noch: hinein Amboseli Nationalpark, die hinein südlichen Kenia liegt, genau eingeschaltet die Grenze zu Tansania. Eine klare Sicht auf Afrikas höchsten Gebirgszug hat man nicht oft. Wir haben Glück sowie können am ersten Vormittag das gesamte Bergmassiv in seiner vollen Pracht bestaunen, sowie anschließend eine reiche Tierwelt in abwechslungsreicher, faszinierender Landschaft. Besonders erfreuen wir uns ehrlich gesagt am Anblick die vielen Elefanten. Angesichts die existenziellen Bedrohung die Dickhäuter durch die jüngst dramatisch angestiegene Wilderei ist dieser nämlich leider keine Selbstverständlichkeit mehr.
